How Can I prevent paper jams on my printer?

  • Make sure you never overfill the paper tray
  • Do not add paper, while the printer is working.
  • Wait until you get the ‘Out of Paper’ message before you add paper to the tray.
  • Remove the printed paper from the tray frequently.
  • Ensure that the paper loaded into the tray is laid properly; and the edges of the paper are not folded or torn.
  • Do not combine different types or sizes of paper, the entire stack of paper on the tray should be of the same type.
  • The paper width guides should be spaced in such a way that they do not bend the paper between them.
  • Any paper jammed in your printer should be removed with your hand. Do not use any tool or device.

Why Print quality is so poor?

The quality of the printer output depends on the paper used and the condition of the inkjet nozzles. The nozzles may be blocked and should be cleaned regularly. Cleaning kits are available online, or this can be done from the printer’s software or the control panel, depending on the type of printer you use.

The paper used should be of good quality. Good quality papers give good print outputs. The paper you use should depend on the type of printer, for example, a photocopier paper on an inkjet printer absorbs all the ink like blotting paper and affects the quality.

Why does my scanned output have vertical lines all over it?

Some of the common causes for these distorted outputs are:

  • Static interference
  • Loose USB cable or power cord connection
  • Fingerprints, smudges, lint, or dust on the scanner glass
  • Dirt or debris on the scanner lid or inside the printer
  • Scratched or damaged scanner glass
  • Poor internal connections
  • Damaged or faulty scanner bulb or parts

To avoid these distorted outputs, always keep the printer, especially the scanner components, clean (With soft cotton cloth or mirror wipes). If the problem persists even after thorough cleaning, then reset the printer. Read the officejet printer troubleshooting guide to solve printer issues.
